A septic tank riser brings the access point of your septic tank up to ground level, so a technician doesn't have to dig down every time the tank needs pumping or inspection. Rock Solid Septic & Excavation installs septic tank risers and replaces septic tank lids on both residential and commercial properties across Spartanburg, Greenville, Cherokee, Pickens, and Anderson counties. As of August 2026, riser installation runs $650 and lid replacement runs $250. Call (864) 431-2822 for a free estimate, or request an estimate online.

OUR PROJECTS

We approach each project meticulously, meet deadlines, use proven technology, and are always ready to help achieve reliable, long-lasting performance.

What's Included in Riser and Lid Service

A riser and lid job typically includes the following:

  • Locating and exposing the existing tank opening
  • Sizing and setting a plastic or concrete riser section
  • Sealing the riser with butyl sealant for a watertight fit
  • Installing or replacing the lid or riser cover
  • Backfilling and regrading around the finished install

What Affects the Cost

The $650 riser installation and $250 lid replacement prices above cover most standard jobs. What can move the number is tank depth, how damaged the existing lid or opening is going in, and whether we're setting a plastic riser or one sized for an older concrete tank. We confirm the final number before we start any work.

Why a Septic Tank Needs a Riser

On a lot of older properties, the septic tank sits two or three feet below grade, and every pump-out or inspection means digging down to the tank opening first. A riser extends that opening up to ground level, so a pumper or technician has easy access without hand-digging or running a machine over the yard. Once a riser is installed, locating the access point of the septic tank for future service takes minutes instead of an hour with a probe.

When a Septic Tank Lid Needs Replacement

An old concrete lid cracks, settles, or gets damaged by a mower or a vehicle driving over it, and once that happens, it needs to be replaced before it becomes a hazard around an open septic tank. We check the lid condition every time we're on site for a pump-out, and if it's compromised, we swap it during the same visit instead of scheduling a second trip. We never leave an open septic tank unattended, even for a few minutes, while we swap a damaged lid for a new one.

What's Involved in Installing a Septic Tank Riser

Installing a septic tank riser starts with locating the tank and exposing the top of the tank around the existing opening. We measure the distance from the tank to ground level to determine the height of the riser section needed, then set a plastic riser, or a riser sized for a concrete tank, sealing the connection with butyl sealant to keep the fit watertight. A riser lid goes on top of the septic tank, secured so it stays in place but still gives easy access for the next pump-out or inspection.

Riser Kits, Materials, and Sizing We Use

We install both Polylok and Tuf-Tite riser kits, along with a poured concrete lid when a property calls for one instead of a plastic riser system. Most residential tanks take a 20-inch or 24-inch riser, sized to the depth of the tank and the diameter of the tank opening. Commercial tanks often run larger, so we size the riser to the tank on site rather than to a standard residential dimension. For a septic tank riser kit to seal properly, the base has to seat flush against the tank before we backfill around it.

How We Size and Install Every Riser

Every septic riser we install starts with a quick site check. We confirm the center of the tank, measure the height needed between the tank and finished grade, and match that to a riser section and riser cover sized for the setup. Getting that measurement right the first time is what separates a proper installation from one that leaks or settles within a year. We bring our own tools and materials to every job, so there's no waiting on a supply run mid-visit. The installation process usually takes a few hours from initial digging to backfill, and once the riser replaces the old buried opening, every pumping or inspection visit after that goes faster.

Backfilling and Finishing the Job

We properly install and seal every riser before we backfill, so there's nothing to dig up and redo later. Once the riser and lid are set and sealed, we backfill around the tank and bring the grade back to level so the riser sits at or just above the surrounding ground instead of trapping water against the seal.
