Owner & Operations Manager at Rock Solid Septic ~ Excavation | Licensed Septic Contractor in South Carolina & North Carolina
John Rusev is the owner and operations manager of Rock Solid Septic ~ Excavation, a septic and excavation company serving homeowners across Upstate South Carolina. Since founding the company in 2021, John has overseen the growth of Rock Solid from a small excavation operation into a multi-county septic contractor specializing in septic pumping, repairs, drain field replacement, new installations, and excavation work.
John currently holds South Carolina’s pumping license (OSWWP0109) and also holds septic licensing credentials in North Carolina. In addition to licensing requirements, he and his team complete continuing education classes throughout the year to stay current with septic regulations, installation standards, and system design requirements in both states.
Operations, Scheduling, and Customer Communication
At Rock Solid, John manages nearly every operational aspect of the company. According to him, approximately 95% of customers contact him directly.
His responsibilities include:
Estimating and bidding septic projects
Scheduling installations and pumping services
Coordinating crews and materials
Managing day-to-day operations
Communicating directly with homeowners and builders
Keeping trucks, equipment, and projects moving efficiently
“It’s my job to make sure everything stays rolling.”
John is especially involved in helping homeowners understand what’s happening with their septic systems before work even begins. Whether it’s an emergency backup, a failed drain field, or a new construction installation, he focuses heavily on communication and realistic expectations.
Background in Excavation, Utilities, and Septic Work
Before opening Rock Solid Septic ~ Excavation, John spent several years working in excavation and underground utility construction. His first experience in dirt work came through horizontal drilling and utility installation projects involving:
Internet fiber
Underground utilities
Road crossings
Interstate boring
Utility routing beneath rivers and bridges
“That’s where I learned how to operate equipment. That’s where I learned utilities: power, sewer, water, all that stuff.” He later worked in Washington State for a septic contractor before eventually returning to South Carolina and launching Rock Solid as a full-time business.
Originally focused on excavation, the company gradually shifted deeper into septic system work as demand increased. “Within a year, I realized this was going to become a full-time thing,” John explains.
Focused on Doing the Job Right the First Time
One of John’s core philosophies is simple:
Do the job correctly the first time.
He believes poor workmanship doesn’t just affect one customer. It affects the company’s long-term reputation throughout the community. “Doing the job right the first time means a whole lot after experience of doing it wrong the first time,” John says. “When you do it right, customers recommend you to everybody.”
That philosophy shapes the way Rock Solid approaches:
Septic pumping
Repairs
Installations
Excavation work
Emergency service calls
Customer communication
Property cleanup and professionalism
John also places strong emphasis on presentation and professionalism in the field, including maintaining clean equipment, organized jobsites, and respectful customer interactions.
Long-Term Vision for Rock Solid Septic ~ Excavation
John’s long-term goal is to make Rock Solid one of the most recognized and trusted septic companies in Upstate South Carolina. He wants the company to become known for:
Professionalism
Fast response times
Honest communication

“I want us to be known as the best septic guys around,” John says.
Today, John continues managing septic pumping, excavation, repairs, emergency response, and installation projects throughout Spartanburg County, Greenville County, Cherokee County, Pickens County, and Anderson County, helping homeowners navigate the unique soil, drainage, and septic challenges common throughout the region.
